Destitute and childless, Ivy pulls a golden flounder from the sea—a prince cursed in a past life, who offers three wishes for his freedom. She asks for nothing, yet at last conceives. Enraged, her husband forces her to spend them: she becomes the richest woman alive, then queen, while he gives her eyes and her crown to a maid. He shoves her off the dais; she loses the baby, and wishes him ruined.
