Sakurai Sakura, a beauty creator from modern-day Tokyo, time-slips into the Dayong Dynasty and unexpectedly spends a night with the boy general Xiao Huigen, becoming pregnant. Xiao proposes without hesitation, but the news drags Sakura into a series of schemes: her stepmother secretly tries to make her take abortifacients, and a minister’s daughter spreads rumors that she is a spy. Using modern makeup techniques and girl-group choreography, Sakura sweeps through the noblewomen’s circles and the imperial palace, and even does the Empress’s makeup herself, winning her favor and turning the tables. Xiao, utterly devoted to his wife, tastes her food himself to test for poison and stands firmly at her side, sword drawn at the palace gates. Beneath the fireworks, as her longing for home collides with her true feelings, the two achieve a perfect love that transcends eras and borders.
