Pippa is a loud little dog who talks too much. After her mother marries Conrad Ashby, she is told to stay silent. Her stepbrother Tobin, an autistic hedgehog, has not spoken in five years. Pippa whispers stories to him at night. Tobin says his first word: “More.” When a doctor forces Tobin through a painful sound test, Pippa smashes the headphones and covers his ears. Tobin speaks again: “No… don’t.” Conrad finally trusts her. Pippa stays. The house slowly fills with sound.
