Lucia, an illegitimate daughter of the Lane family, marries the cold-hearted godfather Dominic in place of her sister. She thinks she's just a victim, but after the wedding, she discovers the godfather is surprisingly indulgent. He teaches her to shoot, gives her a pistol and a diamond ring. When others bully her, he holds her in his arms: "You are my wife." At that moment, she becomes the apple of his eye.
