Slain by husband Kael after he killed their newborn, elven princess Maeve is reborn at the mate-selection. Reborn too, Kael chooses her sister; Maeve volunteers as a sacrifice to the Ancient Elf King. Saved by a mysterious "commoner," she bears his child, mocked as a lowly two-winged mother. Yet her baby is revealed as a legendary eight-winged elf, her husband as the Elf King, her wings as Flame-Heart Sacred Wings. Seizing the throne, she exposes Kael's fraud and ends the wing-rank caste.
