eighteen-year-old magical prodigy Cassian earns a place at Ebonspire Academy of High Arcana, but when his parents refuse to pay the enrollment bond, he takes five thousand silver runes from the family strongbox. His mother, Marla , reports him to Crownridge Warden Hall in the name of “teaching him a lesson,” causing his name to vanish from the academy’s Star-Roll. One year later, under the protection of his aunt Isolde, Cassian returns stronger, earns an even higher score, and finally enters Ebonspire—only to tell his regretful parents, calmly and forever: “I know. But I do not forgive.”
