Rowan, an ordinary scout of Frosthold City, had been secretly married to Dorian, Commander of the Dragon Riders, for a full decade. At constant risk of death, Rowan gathered intelligence, scarred all over, clinging to the hope that enough military merit would earn them a place among the Dragon Riders — so their bond could finally be made public.Yet Dorian transferred all the hard-won merit Rowan had fought and bled for to Orion, a new recruit. Witnessing this betrayal and favouritism from the one they loved, Rowan’s hope crumbled. They left Frosthold City alone and returned to their hometown, at last finding peace and freedom. It was only after Rowan vanished without a trace that panic seized Dorian. Sifting through mountains of reconnaissance reports, and confronted by accusations from his friend, he finally saw the selfless devotion Rowan had given him for ten long years. Overwhelmed by remorse, he publicly exposed the truth: Orion had stolen glory that was never his. But the person who had gambled everything for him for a decade was gone, never to return.
