At the Crown Trials, gifted beast tamer Alia Grant is seconds from victory when her bonded dragon betrays her for the Headmaster's daughter and burns a hole through her chest. Alia survives, severs their bond, and vanishes. Ten years later, she returns with two mysterious phoenixes and one goal: reclaim the Tamer's Crown. But revenge is only the beginning. Beneath Orys Academy lies a secret that has stolen generations of power, fortune, and lives. To destroy it, Alia must expose the academy, defeat those who cast her aside, and prove that genius needs neither permission nor a faithless dragon.
