In the Great Depression of 1932, Margaret, a farmwife cast out by her son, stumbles on a cellar door that leads to 2026. She trades old gold coins and antiques for funds in the future, then brings back grain, medicine and technology to her own time. Together with Lily, her jilted daughter-in-law, and Ruth, her injured daughter, she fights famine. From a rejected old woman, she becomes a cooperative supplier and town mayor. Using modern survey gear, she finds groundwater and spreads drought-resistant farming. She wins a state agriculture award and secures the town’s self-reliant future.
