Chen Yuan, a young man from a fishing village, is attacked by his maternal uncle. On the verge of death, he saves a mysterious sea maiden and gains the power of golden fish scales, which allows him to communicate with marine creatures. He rises against all odds, fighting repeated suppression from his uncle and the wealthy young master Song Jin. He builds the Longteng Ocean-going Fleet, catches rare marine products and salvages antiques from sunken shipwrecks.
