Three months pregnant, Ruth braves a storm to pick up her landlord’s child—and runs straight into her husband, Lucas, who is supposed to be in New York. He’s with another woman and a little girl who calls him “Dad,” and he pretends not to know Ruth. That night, he plays the devoted husband—ginger tea, a black card, dumping the ribs she cooked—while lying that he came home early to surprise her. Ruth finally snaps, grabs his phone, and threatens to call his “wife.” Then the screen lights up: Wife. Done with the lies, Ruth walks away, leaving Lucas with nothing but regret.
